A method and base station for processing a selected IP traffic offload (SIPTO) connection. The method comprises: when a terminal switches from a source slave base station (SeNB) to a target SeNB, a main base station (MeNB) receives interface information of the target SeNB (11), and the source SeNB supports joint configuration of a local gateway (L-GW); when successful switch confirmation information sent by the target SeNB is received, the MeNB triggers the source SeNB to notify the L-GW to release a local network selected IP traffic offload (SIPTO@LN) connection (12). The present invention effectively achieves joint configuration of an L-GW in a small base station environment and releasing of a SIPTO@LN connection in such a scenario.
