Class 131 [Also in Group XXV] A clip comprises a piece of resilient sheet material having a connection strip 20 a pair of spaced apart flat legs 21 projecting in the same general direction from the connection strip an additional leg 22 projecting from the connection strip in the same general direction as the pair of legs and means connecting portions of the pair of legs together in laterally stressed condition with the portions maintained closer together than the other portions of the pair of legs whereby the pair of legs assume a concavo-convex condition which may be snapped to a reverse concavoconvex condition to bring portions of the pair of legs alternatively towards or away from a corresponding portion of the additional leg. The clip is made from the blank shown in Fig. 3 and as shown in Fig. 2, the means for connecting the two legs 21 together comprise a wire staple 26 which engages recesses 25 in the outer ends of the legs. In a modification a hollow cap may be used to connect the legs 21 together this being slipped over the end of the legs and tabs being provided for engaging the recesses 25. In an alternative construction the end of the legs may be joined together in the blank by a bridging piece 28 as shown in Fig. 5 and this is crimped to draw the ends of the legs together. In a further construction the ends of the legs are formed with tongues which are bent and interlocked under pressure. If desired either the centre leg or the outer legs can be provided with corrugation to improve the gripping action. In another construction, Fig. 11, the legs 21<SP>1</SP> are joined together at both ends and intermediate portions are drawn together by a metal band 36. As shown, the clip is intended for use as a hair clip but an ornamental plate can be soldered to the centre leg 22 for use as a tie or other ornamental holding clip. |
