[Class 37] [Also in Group XVI] A machine for assembling flat plate condensers comprises a stacking nest with a platform on which the sheets of insulation and foil are stacked. A hopper containing cut sheets of insulation, a hollow lifting tube to which vacuum can be applied, having a mouth brought into contact with the top sheet in the hopper so as to lift the sheet by suction and by moving the tube, to convey it to the nest, foil being fed between the sheets as stacked. In the machine described, four stacking platforms form the bottom, in turn, of a stacking nest. The vacuum mica-sheet conveying pipe is pushed down on to the uppermost of a stack of mica sheets in a hopper, and lifts are to transfer it to the platform in the nest and release it. A strip of foil from one of two oppositely located rolls is then fed in over the sheet and a knife severs it so that it projects over one edge of the mica. A second mica sheet is then deposited, and a foil fed in from the other side and cut off so as to project from the opposite edge. This is repeated a predetermined number of times and then a counter-operated switch operates mechanism to rotate the platform bearing disc to place another platform in position the stacked condenser being held by a cam-released spring clip on its platform and the switch restarts the stacking mechanism. As the stack on its platform moves away the edge is coated with. molten wax or adhesive, which coils on its further travel to a point where the stack is disengaged by an arm and falls down a shoot. In modifications a plurality of parallel metal foils are fed spaced apart on to a single mica sheet, the multiple condenser thus formed being subsequently cut between the foils. In a further modification a corresponding number of nests platforms conveying tubes and hoppers are provided to make a number of condensers at one time. |
