This exhaust gas purifying catalyst contains oxide particles which are a mixture of crystallites (A) that are loaded with a noble metal and crystallites (B) that are not loaded with a noble metal. The crystallites (A) that are loaded with a noble metal are composed of an oxide that contains zirconium (Zr) and/or cerium (Ce), while the crystallites (B) that are not loaded with a noble metal are composed of an oxide that contains cerium (Ce) and has a Ce content ratio (mol%) higher than the Ce content ratio (mol%) in the oxide of the crystallites (A). Each oxide particle has a specific surface area of 30 m2/g or more after a 5-hour heat treatment in the atmosphere at 1,150°C.
