The purpose of the present invention is to provide a liquid crystal display device capable of improving transmissivity in applying voltage for an FFS mode liquid crystal display device. A liquid crystal display device (1a) according to the present invention comprises a first substrate (13a), a second substrate (14) facing the first substrate, and a liquid crystal layer (15) interposed between the first and second substrates. The first substrate includes sequentially a plurality of pixel electrodes (10a), an insulating film (9b) covering the plurality of pixel electrodes, and a common electrode (11) superimposed on the plurality of pixel electrodes with a plurality of parallel slits (12a, 12b) formed therein. A step (17) projecting toward the liquid crystal layer is disposed on the first substrate at least along the longitudinal direction of the plurality of parallel slits in the region between the plurality of pixel electrodes. The common electrode covers at least the lateral surface of the step. The liquid crystal display device is an FFS mode liquid crystal display. |
