A disinfection device includes a radiation lamp (112) having an aperture for delivering radiation. A flexible shroud surrounds a perimeter of the aperture. The shroud includes a surface configured to deform and create a seal around the aperture when in contact with a target surface. A sensing circuit (120, 156) is configured to sense a state of the seal and enable the radiation lamp when the seal is complete.

1. A disinfection device, comprising:
a radiation lamp; a housing having an aperture for delivering radiation; a flexible shroud surrounding a perimeter of the aperture, the shroud including a surface configured to deform and create a seal around the aperture when in contact with a target surface; and a sensing circuit configured to sense a state of the seal and enable the radiation lamp when the seal is complete; wherein the shroud includes an elastomeric material and a conductive surface on an interior portion and the sensing circuit includes contacts such that when the elastomeric material is deformed electrical contact is made between the conductive surface and the contacts which causes the sensing circuit to sense that the seal is complete.
