A nautical or vehicular safety system and a method of collision detection is disclosed. In one example, the system comprises a 3D camera unit configured to capture images within a field of view of the 3D camera unit, including at least one object in the field of view, a display unit that is wirelessly connected to the 3D camera unit, wherein the 3D camera unit configured to analyze the captured images and determine vector information from the captured images relating to the at least one object in the field of view, the 3D camera unit configured to determine distance information to the at least one object from the vector information, the 3D camera unit is configured to transmit the captured images and the distance information to the display unit.
