The invention relates to a method and device for measuring the thickness of ferromagnetic metal objects. The method for measuring the thickness of a ferromagnetic metal object involves: forming a current pulse in a core winding, said core forming a closed magnetic circuit together with at least a portion of the ferromagnetic metal object; determining a time constant for an exponential voltage pulse which is created in the core winding as a result of the aforesaid current pulse being supplied; and finally, determining the thickness of the ferromagnetic metal object on the basis of the determined time constant.
