799,702. Aircraft &c. seats. SHORT BROS. & HARLAND, Ltd. Oct. 26, 1956 [Dec. 15, 1955], No. 36044/55. Class 52(2) A foldable seat for an aircraft cabin has a chassis 10 fixed to the floor 11 and carrying a seat portion 12, arm rests 13 and a back 15 mounted on a transverse rockable shaft 14 to be movable between a position resting on the seat portion 12 and a rearwardly inclined position, and locking mechanism to lock the back in selected positions of adjustment, the mechanism being capable of being over-ridden by a forwardly directed force applied to the back 15 to fold it down on to the seat. A tension spring 19 anchored to the seat frame and attached by a cable 17 to the back 15 tends to urge the latter into the upright position. The locking means comprises a bracket 22 fixed to the back 15 and carrying a plate 23 having a toothed rack abutment 24 engaged by a rack abutment 27 on a plate 26 pivotally mounted on a crossmember 102 of the chassis 10, the plate 26 being urged into engagement by a compression spring 28. A lever 29 housed in an arm rest co-operates with a lever 291 connected by a Bowden cable 31 with abutment 27 allows the occupant to release the mechanism but when the back is pushed forwardly a roller 32 attached to plate 23 engages a cam-plate 33 fixed to plate 26 and disengages the abutments 27, 24 to allow folding, a lost motion connection between a nipple 311 on the cable and a member 261 on plate 26 preventing disturbance of lever 29. An adjustable stop 171 on cable 17 limits the rearward inclination of back 15. |
