<p>Abstract ADAPTIVE DENSITY FOR ROBUST SHIFT ESTIMATION A process (2700) for measuring a displacement between a halftoned reference image (1305) derived from a continuous tone original image (500) and a captured image (861-865) of the halftoned reference image (1305), by generating (2703) a density adapted reference image having non-zero dot-density values radially decreasing in a direction from a centre area to an edge of the density adapted image, comparing (2705) the density adapted reference image and the captured image, and measuring (2707) the displacement between the reference image and the captured image dependent upon a result of the comparing step.
