This wavelength-multiplexed transport system comprises the following: an optical transmission/reception device (1) containing a plurality of transponders (11) each containing a plurality of internal optical transceivers (111); a BER-monitoring device (3) that monitors the BER of each optical transceiver (111); variable optical attenuators (23) that attenuate optical signals from the respective optical transceivers (111); a control unit (24) that controls the attenuation levels of the variable optical attenuators (23) so as to reduce the total BER of the optical transceivers as monitored by the BER-monitoring device (3); and an optical multiplexing/demultiplexing device (2) whereby the optical signals attenuated by the variable optical attenuators (23) are multiplexed together and sent to the outside and an optical signal from the outside is demultiplexed and sent to the optical transceivers (111).
