800,373. Flexible hose. HOOVER, Ltd. March 8, 1955 [March 10, 1954; Oct. 4, 1954], No. 35196/56. Divided out of 800,371. Class 99(2). In a flexible extensible hose comprising a deeply corrugated tube 10 of resilient material formed with inwardly and outwardly opening helical corrugations 14, 15, the former containing a resilient helical reinforcing coil 11, e.g. of steel or aluminium wire 12 coated with an extruded vinyl chloride 13, the tube consists solely of a thin elastomeric material, e.g. a vinyl chloride, and the coil is so pretensioned in relation to the thickness of the tube and the depth of the corrugations that in the normal relaxed condition the outwardly opening corrugation forms a substantially closed loop, the width of the gap between adjacent convolutions of the coil being less than the maximum width thereof at a greater depth in the trough of the corrugation. The method of and apparatus for making the hose is as described in Specification 800,374, Specifications 673,043 and 800,372 also are referred to.
