PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology that enables the improvement of the contrast of display images and the provision of display images with high dynamic range.SOLUTION: A display device of the present invention includes: light emission means having a plurality of light sources; display means for modulating the light from the light emission means on the basis of display image data to display images on a screen; determination means for determining a target light emission ratio for each of the light sources according to the brightness of the display image data in an area corresponding to the light source, and determining target luminance for each of the light sources by multiplying a target luminance reference value being a reference value of the target luminance by the target light emission ratio; and control means for controlling the light emission luminance of the light sources to be the target luminance. When the plurality of light sources include a light source with insufficient luminance, the determination means adjusts the target luminance of the light sources around the light source with insufficient luminance to a value higher than a value according to the brightness of the display image data in an area corresponding to the surrounding light sources.
