SOLUTION: A piston ring material for an internal combustion engine comprises, by mass%, C: 0.40-0.80%, Si: 0.15% or more and less than 0.50%, Mn: 0.10-1.00%, S: 0.010-0.200%, Cr: 0.10-1.00%, one or two of Ti and Zr in the relational expression of (Ti+1/2Zr): 0.05-1.00%, and the balance being Fe and impurities.
