<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystalline compound having general properties necessary for the compound, low viscosity, proper optical anisotropy, large dielectric anisotropy, and excellent compatibility with another liquid crystalline compound. <P>SOLUTION: This invention relates to a compound (1), wherein, for example, R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>is 1-10C alkyl or 2-10C alkenyl, and R<SP POS="POST">2</SP>is 1-10C alkyl, halogen, -CF<SB POS="POST">3</SB>or -OCF<SB POS="POST">3</SB>; ring W<SP POS="POST">1</SP>and ring W<SP POS="POST">2</SP>are each 1,4-cyclohexylene, or 1, 4-phenylene in which an optional hydrogen may be substituted by halogen, and ring W<SP POS="POST">3</SP>is 1, 4-phenylene in which an optional hydrogen may be substituted by halogen; Y<SP POS="POST">1</SP>, Y<SP POS="POST">2</SP>and Y<SP POS="POST">3</SP>are each a single bond, -(CH<SB POS="POST">2</SB>)<SB POS="POST">2</SB>-, -CH<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O-, -CH=CH-, -CF<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O-, -(CH<SB POS="POST">2</SB>)<SB POS="POST">4</SB>-, -OCH<SB POS="POST">2</SB>-, -OCF<SB POS="POST">2</SB>- or -COO-; and s and u are each 0 or 1, and v is 1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT</p> |
