<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a core-sheath type fiber with a flat cross-section for obtaining a fabric with opacity having excellent feeling as well as excellent opaqueness even in a thin cloth and to provide a cloth with opacity using the fiber such as woven fabrics. <P>SOLUTION: A core-sheath type polyester fiber with a cross-section of a flat shape orthogonal to a lengthwise direction of a single yarn comprises a polyester A containing a titanium oxide fine particle of 5 to 40 wt% in a core part and a polyester B containing a titanium oxide fine particle lower than 5 wt% in a sheath part. The core-sheath type polyester flat cross-section fiber satisfies the following conditions (1) to (5):(1) an average particle size of the titanium oxide fine particle is from 0.15μm to 0.40μm;(2) a single yarn fineness is from 0.5 to 10.0 dtex;(3) a ratio of area A of the core part to area B of the sheath part is from 5:95 to 95:5;(4) a strength is 2.0 cN/dtex or more; and (5) the flat shape is formed by bundling 3 to 6 single yarns with round cross-section together to be attached in a longitudinal direction.
