<p>An emergency services vehicle 28 (ESV) detection system comprising: a rear view camera 22, a controller 19 and display screen 32 within a vehicle; wherein the image 27 from the camera is analysed by the controller to determine if an ESV is present in the image, and an alert is generated on the display if a ESV is present. The alert may take the form of the recorded image, which is preferably altered by the controller, more preferably by highlighting a portion of the image. The system may also use a microphone 24 and audio analysis to detect the ESV. The controller may map data to restrict regions of interest analysed in the image. The controller may detect the type of ESV that is detected. The controller may have stored parameters such as pulse frequency and light colours for a plurality of different types of ESVs. Analysing the image may comprise determining the plausibility of the motion of a vehicle in the image.</p> |
