In cartons formed from a blank having panels producing a body and a hinged lid, an additional strip or strips is/are secured to the blank prior to folding up to provide a neck on which the lid seats. In one embodiment, strips 20, 21 are secured to panels 2, 3, 6 and 7 below lines 21, 22 along which the blank is severed or partially severed to divide the lid from the body. Lines 21, 22 are continued along fold lines 41 , 51 to lines 181, 191 which form the lid hinge. The staggering of the hinge relative to the top edge of the box body ensures that the neck will guide the lid even when opened 90 degrees. In another embodiment, a single strip 24 is secured to panels 2, 3, 6 below the serverance line 25. A staggered hinge is provided by lines 181, 191 as before. In other embodiments (Figs 1-5a not shown) the top edges of the body and neck may be parallel to the bottom panel. The hinge may be continuous with the top edge of the body. In further embodiments (Figs. 11, 12 not shown) the top edge of the body may pass horizontally or slope downwardly along the side walls and then rise steeply to meet the ends of the hinge.
