The present invention relates to a novel tetranuclear arene-ruthenium-based bowl shaped compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, which inhibits the proliferation of SK-hep-1 (liver cancer), AGS (stomach cancer) and HCT-15 (rectal cancer) human cells at low micromols and increases expression of tumor inhibitor to lower activity of cancer cells, thereby having excellent anticancer activity to be used for preventing and treating the cancer.
