摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst material for cleaning exhaust having an oxygen storing capacity and a specific surface area equal to or greater than those of a prior art material, in spite of a reduced content of cerium therein, and a method of producing the same.SOLUTION: A catalyst material 16 for cleaning exhaust includes particles of a ceria-zirconia oxide comprising 0.01 to 0.5 mol% of Cr. By adding Cr to a ceria-zirconia oxide, the catalyst material for cleaning exhaust can be made to have a higher oxygen storing capacity of at least 5.0 (L/mol) for example and a larger specific surface area of at least 30 (m/g) for example, than those of a prior art catalyst material for cleaning exhaust, even if the content of cerium therein is reduced relative to the content of cerium, for example, of 50 mol% present in a prior art catalyst material for cleaning exhaust, to 10 mol%, to 20 mol% or to 30 mol%, for example.
