Class 65(1) [Also in Grop XL(b)] The opening of the exit door of a driver operated bus is dependent upon the application of the vehicle brakes and closure occurs after a predetermined time interval unless delayed by sensing means influenced by the presence of a passenger near the doorway. A passenger wishing to alight operates one of the push buttons 3, energizing coil 5 having hold on contacts 7, and illuminating the signal plate 1 and control lamp 2. After application of the vehicle brakes the driver can operate push button 24 to energize coil 26 to effect closure of contacts 29, 28 to energize coil 31 to lock the brakes. Simultaneously the coil 10, in series with photo-electric cell 9, is energized to close contacts 11, 12 to energize coil 21 to effect opening of the door. The door, when fully open, opens contact 4, causing contacts 7 to open and contacts 6 to close, lighting the lamp 8 which illuminates the photo-cell 9. The consequently increased resistance of the cell causes contacts 12, 11 to open, and after a period predetermined by the setting of the throttle screw 19 in the damping device 14, the contacts 12, 13 close to energize the door closing solenoid 22. If during this period the beam of light from lamp 8 is interrupted by a passenger the contacts 12, 11 are again closed and the door opening solenoid is again energized. The brakes can be released by pushing the throttle pedal to close contact 25 to energize the brake release coil 32. The photocell device may be replaced by movable plates with mechanical contact means or the cell may be completed with an electronic relay circuit so as to obtain a sufficient feed for the coil 10. |
