In apparatus including a drop tube 1 provided with two valves, one at each end of an air lock, the lower valve 11 is closed positively after a carrier has passed through it. The upper valve is not shown. The valve 11 is connected to an arm 10 which is pivoted at 9 and provided with a projection 15. A link 16 connects the projection 15 to a projection 14 on a feeler arm 13 which extends into the tube and is pivoted at 18. A falling carrier depresses the arm 13 into the position shown in broken lines out of the path of the carrier. The plate 11 is held in this position by the carrier until the latter has passed when it descends by gravity and seals the tube. A spring 17 may assist the action. |
