<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inverter apparatus that can reduce the switching frequency of switching elements for generating an intermediate potential of output phases of voltage in a multilevel inverter circuit. <P>SOLUTION: In an inverter apparatus 4 including a multilevel inverter circuit 2 and a control circuit 3, the control circuit 3 performs NVS control of shifting the neutral potential of three phases of voltage at 1/3 period intervals to fix each phase of potential to a negative electrode side potential at 1/3 period intervals. PWM signals for NVS control generated by the control circuit 3 are also input into switching means for generating an intermediate potential of output phases of voltage of the multilevel inverter circuit 2. The switching means does not switch as long as the PWM signal is fixed to a certain level.
