Soaps contain, as a brightening agent, a 1,3-diaryl- or a 1,3,5-triaryl-pyrazoline containing at least one sulphonamide group, which may be substituted, attached to the aryl radicals by means of the sulphur atom. The aryl groups may have other substituents, such as halogen, alkyl or alkoxy groups. Particularly effective compounds are those in which the sulphonamide group is in the para-position. In examples the following compounds are specified: 1-p-sulphonamidophenyl - 3 - p - tolylpyrazoline, 1 - p-sulphanilidophenyl - 3 - p - chlorophenylpyrazoline, and 1,3 - diphenyl - pyrazoline - sulphomethylaminoethane sulphonic acid. The soaps may also contain perfumes, anti-oxidants, deodorants or white pigments. Specification 669,590, [Group IV (a)], is referred to.ALSO:Materials from which shaped articles are produced, e.g casting or spinning masses which contain acrylonitrile polymers or copolymers, may be brightened by the incorporation of a brightening agent which is a 1,3 - diaryl - or a 1,3,5-triaryl-pyrazoline containing at least one sulphonamide group, which may be substituted, attached to the aryl radicals by means of the sulphur atom. The aryl groups may carry other substituents, such as halogen, alkyl or alkoxy groups. Particularly effective compounds are those in which the sulphonamide group is in the para position. In an example, polyacrylonitrile of K-value 90 is added to a dimethyl formamide solution of 1-p-sulphonamido-phenyl-3-p-chlorophenyl-pyrazoline, and the resulting solution spun in the usual manner by the dry-spinning process. Pigments or soluble dyestuffs may be added in addition to the brightening agent. The compounds are prepared by the reaction of aryl hydrazines with a -b -unsaturated-alkyl aryl ketones or their addition products with ammonia, amines, hydrogen halides or alcohols, with the sulphonamide groups already in the aryl groups. Examples indicate the use of the following pyrazoline compounds: 1-p-sulphonamidophenyl - 3 - p - chlorophenyl -, 1 - p - sulphonamidophenyl - 3 - p - bromophenyl -, 1 - p-sulphonamidophenyl - 3 - p - tolyl -, 1 - p - sulphanilidophenyl - 3 - p - chlorophenyl -, 1,3 - diphenyl - pyrazoline - sulpho methylaminoethane sulphonic acid, 1 - p - sulphonamidophenyl - 3 - p - methoxyphenyl -, 1 - p - sulphonamidophenyl - 3,5 - diphenyl -, 1 - p - (sulphonyl - b - morpholinoethylamido) - phenyl - 3-p - chlorophenyl -, 1 - p - (sulphonyl - g - dimethylamino - propylamido) - phenyl - 3 - p-chlorophenyl -, and 1 - p - sulphonamidophenyl-3 - m,p - dichlorophenylpyrazoline. The brightening agents may be added to washing powders and rinsing baths for textiles composed of polyamide or polyacrylonitrile fibres, acetate rayon or wool, and to soaps and to polyacrylonitrile before shaping or spinning. Specification 669,590 is referred to.ALSO:Textile fabrics are treated with a 1,3-diaryl- or a 1,3,5-triaryl-pyrazoline containing at least one sulphonamide group, which may be substituted, attached to the aryl group by the sulphur atom. The aryl groups may also be substituted by halogen or by alkyl or alkoxy groups. The treatment of polyacrylonitrile fibres, polyamides, wool, silk, acetate rayon and cellulosic fibres in neutral or acid baths is described. The baths may also contain washing powder, soap, Glauber's salt, bicarbonates, formic acid, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, sodium hydrosulphite or an alkyl naphthalene sulphonate. Amongst the compounds specified are 1 - p - sulphonamidophenyl - 3 - p - chlorophenyl - pyrazoline, 1 - p - sulphonamido - phenyl - 3 - p - bromophenyl - pyrazoline, 1-p - sulphonamidophenyl - 3 - p - methoxyphenyl-pyrazoline, 1 - p - sulphonamidophenyl - 3,5-diphenyl - pyrazoline, 1 - p - (sulphonyl - b - morpholino - ethylamido) - phenyl - 3 - p - chlorophenyl - pyrazoline, 1 - p - (sulphonyl - g - dimethylamino - propylamido) - phenyl - 3 - p - chlorophenyl - pyrazoline and 1 - p - sulphonamidophenyl - 3 - m,p - dichlorophenylpyrazoline.
