The present invention relates to a method for providing additional information for content and an apparatus therefor, which provide the additional information for the content, being watched by a user, to the user. The information providing apparatus for providing the additional information for the content based on environment data collected via a communication terminal according to the present invention comprises: a storage unit storing the additional information for each content; a receiving unit receiving the environment data collected via the communication terminal; a content identifying unit analyzing the environment data to identify the content, being watched by the user of the communication terminal; and an additional information providing unit extracting the additional information for the content, identified by the content identifying unit, from the storage unit and transmitting the extracted additional information to the communication terminal.
