<p>This invention relates to a method of incorporating the advantages of existing re-usable medical tourniquets comprised within a simple, low cost, two-piece moulded disposable tourniquet device which is designed for use on one patient only before being discarded, thus reducing the risk of patient to patient cross contamination. In use, the belt is drawn through a slot in the base of the buckle and passes between two internal ridges before being drawn sideways under the required tension for venous occlusion. A special feature is the wedge shaped tongue beneath the hinged lid which presses the belt between these ridges to secure it tightly when the lid is closed. To release tension with one hand the belt is lifted, thereby lifting the lid. To re-tension the device, the belt is further pulled and the lid closed, all achievable with one hand.</p> |
