A fastening element 1 comprising a gripping portion 5 with a gripping face (6,fig.2d), a plurality of gripping elements (20,fig.1) extending from the gripping face, an anchoring portion 15 connected to the gripping portion comprising a flange 35 parallel to the gripping face, the flange having a surface area on a lower surface of the flange that is between 10 and 90 percent of the surface area of the gripping face. Preferably the flange is connected to the gripping portion via a support 10, which may be cylindrical. The flange may be a octagonal, pentagonal, hexagonal, or heptagonal, or may have a circular or elliptical shape. The flange may have a raised portion suitable for creating an interference fit with a retaining element. |
