<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a caption when desired by a user in either case that the sound is output via a second loudspeaker 26b or an earphone 30. <P>SOLUTION: A portable telephone 10 has a decoder 50, and a TV tuner 52, and etc. Television broadcast is received by the TV tuner 52. The decoder 50 extracts caption data, sound data and etc., from the television broadcast. The sound data is converted into an analog sound signal, and the volume is adjusted. The volume-adjusted sound is output from the second loudspeaker 26b or the earphone 30. In addition, a caption is displayed based on the caption data on a display 38. In the case that the sound is output from the second loudspeaker 26b, when the volume is equal to or more than a threshold Ta, the displaying of the caption is turned off.
