A hypodermic double - ended needle has a flange 42 to co-operate with a transverse front wall 43 of a syringe and, between the flange 42 and the piercer end of the needle, a boss 44 of which the end remote from the flange 42 is of smaller area than the flange 42. A doubleended needle 12 has flanges 41, 42 which fit against opposite faces of the front wall 43 of a cartridge syringe casing 10. A tapered boss 44 on the rear flange 42 bears against a flexible central zone of the diaphragm 13 at the front of a cartridge 11, the diaphragm 13 thus being deflected or compressed by the boss 44 so that the cartridge, which is fixed at the rear end by a cap 15, is prevented from moving axially. The needle 12 is inserted sideways in the front wall 43. The remainder of the syringe is substantially the same as that described in Specification 809,773. |
