In a ship's double bottom the inner bottom 3 away from the ship's centre line and at a distance from the ship's side 2 has a depression forming a trench for pipes 13 and adapted to be covered with removable planking 11. The bottom 10 of the trench is inclined downwardly towards the outer skin of the ship, has sloping bank plates 8 and 9, and is provided with drainage pipes 17 leading at 18 to the side bilges 7 from which the water is pumped out.</p> |
