Disclosed is a method for playing a moving picture, which comprises: storing an encoding stream which includes a plurality of frames by a plurality of groups of picture (GOP) unit in a buffer; decoding the picture groups stored in the buffer by a plurality of groups of picture (GOP) unit; and providing the decoded pictures to an output unit wherein the GOP includes a frame I, which is an intra frame, and a plurality of frame Ps, which are inter frames, following the frame I. According to an exemplary embodiment of the invention, when the moving picture is played in a reverse direction, a moving picture marker can be moved to a preceding frame I of a second GOP from a first GOP by unit GOP. thereby playing the recorded moving picture in a reverse direction from a random point. In addition to that, the method is capable of performing a parallel processing which reads other GOPs while decoding a specific GOP. |
