Systems and methods for multimedia messaging are provided. When a multimedia messaging service center (MMS-C) receives an MMS message for an intended recipient, the MMS-C forms an MMS notification message that includes the MMS message. The MMS-C then sends the MMS notification message to an intended recipient independent of receipt of a retrieval request from the recipient.

1. A method of multimedia messaging, comprising:
receiving at a multimedia messaging center a first message comprising a multimedia message for a recipient communication station; generating a notification message, based on the received first message, for the recipient communication station, the notification message further comprising a first portion comprising the multimedia message and a second portion to indicate that the first portion of the notification message comprises the multimedia message; and transmitting the generated multimedia notification message to the recipient communication station, wherein an application of the recipient communication station removes the multimedia message from the notification message upon receipt.
