1. A pilot or industrial scale biosynthetic method for preparing purified styrene, the method comprising:
(i) culturing Fusarium oxysporum strain I3-8 deposited with the Agricultural Research Service Culture Collection (NRRL), and assigned Accession No. NRRL 50189, thereby providing a culture of the Fusarium oxysporum strain I3-8 assigned Accession No. NRRL 50189, wherein a gas chromatographic (GC) analysis which provides a GC trace reflective of the composition of the volatile organic compounds produced by the culture of the Fusarium oxysporum strain I3-8 assigned Accession No. NRRL 50189, indicates that styrene is at least one of the major peaks displayed in the GC trace; (ii) capturing volatile organic compounds produced by the culture of the Fusarium oxysporum strain I3-8 assigned Accession No. NRRL 50189 thereby providing a mixture of captured volatile organic compounds; (iii) separating the captured mixture of volatile organic compounds into individual volatile organic compounds; (v) identifying styrene; and (vi) collecting the identified styrene as purified styrene. |
