An apparatus for treating a medium, the apparatus including structure for generating a flow of a working fluid in a flow path, treatment structure for subjecting the medium to treatment and a delivery device for delivering the medium to the treatment structure, the treatment structure and the delivery device being operable in response to the flow of working fluid. A refuge chamber and method utilize such apparatus.

An apparatus for treating a medium, the apparatus comprising at least one reservoir for storing a working fluid under pressure for generating a flow of the working fluid after release of the working fluid from the reservoir, a flow path to allow flow of the working fluid, and treatment means comprising a scrubbing assembly for removing CO and CO2 from the medium and a heat exchanger, the reservoir being fluidly connected to the flow path for generating the flow of the working fluid within the flow path after release of the working fluid from the reservoir, the heat exchanger having a section defining at least a portion of the flow path to allow the working fluid to pass through the heat exchanger for operation thereof, and a fan system having a section defining at least another portion of the flow path to allow the working fluid to drive the fan system for delivering the medium to the heat exchanger for heat exchange to occur between the medium and the section of the heat exchanger.
