The present invention relates to a method and a system for reading a gas meter and cutting off gas using a smartphone application. The method for reading a gas meter and cutting off gas using a smartphone comprises: an application installation step of installing an application for reading a gas meter and cutting off gas on a smartphone; a home network connection step of connecting the application for reading a gas meter and cutting off gas to a home network; a device selection step of selecting a device to be checked or controlled from a list of network-connected devices, which can be checked or controlled, provided to the application for reading a gas meter and cutting off gas; a gas meter reading step of photographing the reading number of a gas reader using a camera for reading a gas meter connected to the home network and transmitting the photographed reading number to the application for reading a gas meter and cutting off gas if the camera for reading a gas meter is selected from the devices; a gas valve opening and closing checking step of transmitting the opening and closing state of a valve, which is determined by a gas valve controller connected to the home network, to the application for reading a gas meter and cutting off gas if the gas valve controller is selected from the devices; and a gas valve opening and closing controlling step of controlling the opening and closing of the gas valve by the gas valve controller if the gas valve is determined to be open in the gas valve opening and closing checking step.
