The present invention discloses a location discriminating apparatus and an operating method thereof. The location discriminating apparatus discriminates the location of an adjacent vehicle by using a reception time point difference and a strength difference between sensing signals received from two ultrasonic sensors, thereby estimating the location and movement route of each adjacent vehicle in the middle of driving a vehicle. The location discriminating apparatus discriminating the location of an adjacent vehicle comprises: a receiving unit which receives a first sensing signal related to an adjacent vehicle from a first ultrasonic sensor installed in a vehicle and receives a second sensing signal related to the adjacent vehicle from the second ultrasonic sensor installed at a position spaced from the first ultrasonic sensor; and a discriminating part discriminating the location of the adjacent vehicle based on each reception time point and each signal strength regarding the respective first sensing signal and the second sensing signal. |
