PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head-mounted display capable of automatically adjusting a focal length of an image to a position that is easy for a user to see.SOLUTION: A CPU of an HMD outputs a ranging instruction signal to a ranging sensor (S2) to have an actual distance to an object measured. The CPU computes a focal length of an ocular optical unit based on the actual distance measured by the ranging sensor and focus information stored in a flash ROM (S5). The focus information contains information of a linear expression which represents a relationship between an actual distance and focal length and has a positive slope of less than 1. Thus, a focal length is computed as a value less than the actual distance. The CPU drives a motor based on the computed focal length (S6). Distance between a liquid crystal unit and the ocular optical system is altered in accordance with an amount of motor rotation to automatically adjust the focal length to an optimal length for the actual distance to the object.
