A motor-driven power steering system and a driving method thereof are disclosed. The motor-driven power steering system according to the present invention comprises: a vehicle speed sensor for detecting the speed of a vehicle; a temperature sensor for detecting the temperature of a power pack; an electric current sensor for detecting the supplied amount of an electric current applied to the motor-driven power steering system; a storage part for storing a thermal resistance value according to the speed of the vehicle with respect to the temperature of the power pack; and a control part for calculating an estimated temperature by reflecting the thermal resistance value according to the speed of the vehicle with respect to the temperature of the power pack detected from the storage part and the supplied amount of the electric current applied to the motor-driven power steering system on a temperature estimation function, and driving a motor according to the calculated estimated temperature. |
