PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide variant forms of recombinant truncated uricase proteins having improved structural stability.SOLUTION: The invention provides genetically modified proteins having uricolytic activity. More particularly, there are provided proteins comprising truncated urate oxidases and production methods thereof, including PEGylated proteins comprising the truncated urate oxidases. In some embodiments, there is provided a mammalian truncated uricase which is truncated at the amino and/or carboxy termini by 1-6 amino acids with an amino acid substitution at position 46 in comparison to a naturally-occurring pig uricase of a specified amino acid sequence.
