Provided is a computer system such that a storage device consumes less power while retaining a prescribed level of reliability. Highly important data which may lead to system crashes if errors arise therein, such as instruction data or pointers, is retained in a storage device at high reliability (a level whereat error correction is possible). Less important data which will not cause an overall system shutdown if errors arise therein, such as images, text, or other inputted data, or intermediate data of calculations, is retained at low reliability (a level whereat one or more bits of data cannot be error corrected even if ECC is used). |
