According to the invention, in each link strand, in each case different inner links (2) and outer links (3) alternate in the longitudinal direction of the chain (1), wherein both the inner links and also the outer links are in each case of mirror-symmetrical form with respect to the vertical central plane (S1) thereof which runs perpendicular to the longitudinal direction, such that identical inner links (2) and identical outer links (3) can be used in both link strands. To secure adjacent inner and outer links (2; 3) in the longitudinal direction of the chain, the joint elements (5) have minor-symmetrical opposite end regions (52).
