RADIO-TRANSPARENT ARMOR

Radio-transparent armor for protecting land-based radar equipment against damage caused by destructive means in the form of fragmentation-type and bullet-type armor-piercing bodies, has a multilayer structure and contains a radio-transparent armor-protective screen (1), comprised of an inner layer (2) formed by ceramic elements (3) made of ceramic radio-transparent material which does not contain metal particles and which is in the form of cylinders having convex ends, positioned with the longitudinal axes thereof along the normal to the surface of the armor, wherein neighboring ceramic elements (3) in the inner layer (2) are conjugated to one another at at-least one end of one of the elements by portions of six cylinders which form (3a) a lateral surface, and form, amongst themselves, cavities (8) for accommodating fastening damping elements (9) made of a polyurethane-based material, and wherein the inner layer (2) is provided with reinforcing layers (6, 7) on the boundary surfaces thereof. The armor contains a radio-transparent structural layer (10) which is connected to a reinforcing layer (7) of the armor-protective screen (1) and which is provided with a reinforcing layer (11) on the outer boundary surface thereof, and the reinforcing layers (6, 7, 11) are made of a plastic which is reinforced using organic fibers. The armor can be provided with a superhydrophobic coating.
