The invention relates to an absorbent matrix to be used in a disposable absorbent item having an upper portion facing the body and a lower portion facing the garment, such as to include a polymer network (1) consisting of a plurality of longitudinal threads (2) and a plurality of transverse threads (3) which form therebetween free openings (5) which are covered with particles of superabsorbent material (6) forming areas for absorbing and retaining fluids, such that the longitudinal threads (2) have a larger diameter than the transverse threads (3), forming longitudinal fluid-distributing channels (4) at the lower portion of the matrix, under the transverse threads (3).
