A work-table to be secured to the table of a drilling or like machine comprises a base 10 with an annular bearing-surface 17 supporting a ballrace 18 prevented, as by a spigot 15 on the base, from moving off the surface 17, a work-support 22 secured to a plate 19 resting on the thrust-race 18 and including an index-plate 25 having openings 31 corresponding e.g. to the pattern of holes to be drilled in the work, means 32 for engaging the index openings 31, and means 28 on the base for limiting horizontal movements of the support 22. A flange 21 on the support 22 projects into a large bore in the part 28 of the base, and contact between the flange and the wall of the bore limits movement of the support caused by a handle connected to a lever 59 mounted on an extension 50 of the support 22. Depression of the lever 59, against the action of its supporting spring 64, operates a valve 51, 57 on the part 50, supplying compressed air to a cylinder 35 for withdrawing the index pin 32 against the action of a return spring 36. Compressed air is also fed beneath the index plate 25, through a passage 45 and, escaping through the bearing 18 and the gap between the support 22 and the base, prevents swarf entering the gap. Escape passages 25a, 21a adjacent the index-plate 25 are also provided, and compressed air in channels 28a in the underside of part 28 opposes the lifting action of the air beneath the plate 25. The plate 19 is secured to the flange 21 by screws 20 and the plate 25 to the support 22 by screws 27. A work-holder (not shown) is secured to the support, as by bolts, or to a wear-plate secured to the support and located on pins 70, 71. A projection 10a on the base supports a card 72 having a pattern of holes 73 corresponding with the index-holes 31 in the plate 25, and a pointer 74 on the support 22 can be moved over the pattern to position the support approximately, the exact position being secured by releasing the index-pin 32; the top of the projection 10a may be blackened to make the holes 73 more prominent.
