Disclosed are a mobile terminal and a method for controlling the same. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a mobile terminal comprises: a housing; a display unit; a sensing unit which senses whether a cover is opened/closed on the display unit, when the cover, which has an opening part to expose at least a portion of the display unit and is installed in the housing, is closed on the display unit; and a control unit which, if a closing of the cover is detected during execution of a first application, controls the display unit to change the displayed status of the running screen for the first application so that the running screen corresponds to the location and size of the opening part of the cover. |
