A cryopreservation container (2), preferably a tube or vial, is described. The container comprises: a tapered body (4) with a proximal open end (6) and a sealed distal end (8) and a lumen ectending there between, a closure (40) for removable attachment to the body, and a least two projections (24) extending radially outwardly from the external surface of the lumen and forming an outer container surface (28) that has a substantially constant external diameter. The container is configured to isolate a biological sample held in the container lumen from the external environment (closed system) and is suitable for storage of the sample, such as semen or an embryo, in liquid nitrogen. Methods for introducing and sealing biological samples within the container for cryopreservation and/or vitrification and storage are also described. |
