1. A method of operation of an electronically controlled rotary switch, comprising:
determining whether a rotary knob assembly is permitted to rotate based on data available to a controller in electrical communication with the knob assembly, the controller being adapted to receive sensed information about whether an attempt to rotate the switch occurred; sensing an attempted rotation of the rotary switch; and after sensed attempted rotation, if the rotary not permitted to rotate, energizing a braking device through the controller in electrical communication with the braking device to slow or stop rotation of the rotary knob.
