PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of manufacturing a large amount of silicon carbide powder having a desired particle size at a low cost with a high yield. ! SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a silicon carbide powder comprises: (A) the particle size determination step of determining a desired particle size of a silicon carbide powder and determining a molar ratio (Si/C) of a silicon powder to a carbon powder corresponding to the desired particle size; and (B) the heating step of mixing the silicon powder with the carbon powder at the molar ratio determined in the step (A) to obtain a powder mixture, heating the powder mixture to obtain a molten liquid 5 having a temperature gradient (for example, 10-300°C as a difference between a temperature in a high temperature region and a temperature in a low temperature region) and precipitating a silicon carbide powder 6 in the molten liquid 5. !
