Smart glasses and method of controlling same, where the smart glasses comprise: lenses, frames, and temples. The lens comprises a transparent display (10) for double-sided display. A camera (11) and a pickup device (12) are disposed on the frame to acquire a gesture instruction and a speech signal, respectively. A brain wave recognizer (13) and a processor (14) are disposed on the temple. The brain wave recognizer (13) acquires a brain wave signal, and the processor (14) receives the gesture instruction, the speech signal, and the brain wave signal and performs processing. The smart glasses may implement conversion of external information into image and text information that can be seen by a wearer of the glasses, and at the same time may further implement demonstration of inexpressible speech of the wearer to another person in a manner of image and text, for example, achieve barrier-free communication between a speech or hearing impaired person and a normal person.
