<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gridless 1×2 wavelength selective switch having AWGs integrated into two or one and a small number of cross waveguides, wherein the number of cross waveguides hardly depends on a switch status. <P>SOLUTION: A wavelength selective switch comprises: a first arrayed-waveguide grating 101 for dividing a wavelength of an N-wavelength-division multiplexed signal that is input through one input waveguide to output the divided signal to N number of output waveguides; an optical switch array having N number of 1x2 optical switches into which output light beams from the N number of output waveguides are input in parallel; a wavelength coupler array having N-P number of 2x1 wavelength couplers (P is an integer of one or more) to which output light beams from two optical switches for outputting light beams having neighboring wavelengths are input in parallel; and a second arrayed-waveguide grating 103 having N+P number of input ports, which outputs the input light beams from at least one of two output ports thereof. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT</p> |
